Name the range before you draw the first trendline
A sloping line feels like work. A box feels like you have admitted the market is going nowhere. That discomfort is why we confiscate rulers on Saturday morning of the clinic.

If swing highs and swing lows are failing to progress, you are in a range until a close says otherwise. The high of the range and the low of the range are the only lines required. Diagonals drawn through the middle of that box will be broken by ordinary noise and will tempt you to invent a trend that is not present.
Crypto pairs spend long stretches in ranges while the wider market argues about a narrative. Students who arrive from social feeds have been trained to treat every pause as a coiled move. We treat it as a location. Locations can be faded, faded badly, or left alone. They are not automatically a breakout workshop.
After the box is honest, a trendline may connect swing lows in a rising structure or swing highs in a falling one. It is a helper, not a law. If removing the diagonal does not change your bias or your invalidation, the line was decoration.
In the intensive, week four is the first time the ruler returns as a regular tool. By then the room has already failed a few times at calling ranges too early, which is the better error than calling them too late with a diagonal already inked.
